At 12:00pm on Saturday, September 8th parents, families and friends from across Dublin gathered outside the Red Stables in St Anne’s Park Raheny to walk together in remembrance of all children or young persons who died suddenly. Joining them was FirstLight Patron Sabina Higgins wife of President Michael D Higgins and FirstLight.
As part of the ceremony FirstLight planted a white Cherry Blossom in memory of all children and young persons who died suddenly. The ceremony was attended by renowned Irish actress Una Crawford O’ Brien, along with FirstLight members Tomas Fay and Tatiana da Silva Souza, whose daughter Lorena died in 2016 at just 20 days old.
Commenting on the ceremony FirstLight CEO Fionnuala Sheahan said: “The FirstLight tree is in memory all children or young persons who died suddenly.” “The cherry blossom flower is revered around the world not just for its overwhelming beauty, but for its enduring expression of life, death and renewal”
On Saturday 29th the second FirstLight tree was planted at the Limerick Mile in Memory Walk in the Kilmallock Famine Memorial Park in memory of Katie and all other children who have died suddenly. We would like to offer a very sincere thank you to Marcella O’ Mahony and family for their warm welcome to Andrew who attended the walk on behalf of FirstLight.
